Many of us use Bluetooth on a daily basis, be it for our headphones, microphones or connecting the phone. But then, Bluetooth stops working.

Before we get to how to fix Bluetooth not working, we need to discuss several common situations in which this happens.

While many problems can be solved by reinstalling the driver, some issues are much simpler and solvable without modification.

In case your Bluetooth is having problems connecting, its possible that has something to do with your network card. Often times, especially in laptops, a single network card will include both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. That can cause interference problems which no drivers can fix, and the common solution is temporarily disabling the Wi-Fi.

In case the problem is Bluetooth not recognizing or detecting devices at all, restarting the Bluetooth Support Service often solves the problem. As does checking that you are pairing the devices properly.

In case the problem is Bluetooth not recognizing or detecting devices at all, restarting the Bluetooth Support Service often solves the problem. As does checking that you are pairing the devices properly.

Now, onto the reinstalling of the driver:

  1. Press the combination of Windows key and S or just press the Windows key and start typing.
  2. Type in “control panel” without quotes and hit Enter.
  3. Choose the Hardware and Sound and then select Devices.
  4. Find your Bluetooth device and remove it.
  5. Now click add to add the device back.

This will re-pair the device.

In case that hasn’t worked, go from step 1 and type in “device manager”.

There you will find a list of your devices, in which you will find your Bluetooth device. Select “Uninstall Device” from the right click menu on it and choose Uninstall in the dialogue.

Once its uninstalled, click the Scan for Hardware Changes icon, then your device will install the missing drivers on its own.

If the reinstalling of the driver hasn’t solved the problem, go back to step 1 and type “settings”. Choose the Update and Security. Find the Troubleshoot option in the left-pane menu. On right pane scroll down to find Hardware and Devices and click the Run the Troubleshooter button.

Once the tool is done working, the issue should be resolved.

In case none of these fixed your issue, it is likely a hardware problem and will require taking the device to a repair shop.
